Fairfield, Conn. -- Robert Thomson signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Fairfield University, beginning with the 2000-01 season. Thomson represents the only early signee for the Stags program this year.

Thomson, a 6-foot, 10-inch center, hails from Hellertown, Pa. where he plays basketball at Saucon Valley High School. The center enjoyed a solid junior season, averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. His numbers were strong enough to garner the attention of many schools. He chose Fairfield over the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University as well as several Atlantic 10 and Big East programs.

Fairfield University begins its second season under head coach Tim O'Toole, who took over the program prior to the 1998-99 campaign. The Stags have four nationally-ranked teams on their schedule this year, namely Kansas, UNLV, UCLA and UConn.
