FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Freshman Michael Van Schaick earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rookie of the week award for his performance against Marist College on December 9. The Stags posted a 74-60 win against the Red Foxes, improving Fairfield's overall record to 4-1.
The guard became the second Fairfield player to garner a weekly award from the MAAC. Against Marist, he registered career-highs with five points and four assists in the win. He made two of four field goal attempt, and scored his first three-point basket of the year. His three-pointer was a spark in a 17-5 run to start the second half, which turned a three-point halftime lead into a double-digit advantage. Rob Thomson was the other Stag to gain a weekly award, taking MAAC Player of the Week after the team's win over St. John's.
Van Schaick came to Fairfield after a successful career at Glens Falls High School, where he led the team to the New York state final last year. He scored 30 or more points in 11 games during his senior year at Glens Falls and was an all-league selection.
The Stags return to action on December 23 when they host George Washington University in a non-conference game at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. To purchase tickets for any Fairfield University basketball game, please call (203) 254-4103 or go to the ticket page on this website.
