Stags Finish Seventh At Holiday Inn Colonial Classic

The Fairfield University men’s golf team opened its fall schedule with a seventh place finish at the Holiday Inn Colonial Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa.  The Stags shot a two-day team-total 615 (310-305), +39, just two strokes out of fifth place.  The event was played at the par-72, 6-632-yard, Montour Heights Country Club.

The Stags top finisher was R.J. Zielinski who finished tied for 11th with a two-day 150.  He shot a first round 78 and rallied back with a day two 72.  Kevin Fitzpatrick finished a stroke back, in 13th place, with a 76-75 outing.  Nick Gliozzo shot a first round 80 for the Stags and improved by four strokes in round two, to finish in 28th with a 156.

Jeff Bradke shot 76-82, to finish at 158, in a tie for 36th, while Rob Tarallo finished 42nd, shooting 81-82, for a two-day 163.

Toronto shot a tournament record 586 (+10) to capture the team crown.  Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Canisius College shot a two-day 599 (+23) to finish in a tie for second, while Niagara shot a +47, 623, to finish ninth.   Drew Creighton of Canisius finished as the individual champion with a two-day 137.

Fairfield is back in action at the ECAC Championship Oct. 13-14.
