Fairfield University head men’s golf coach Len Roberto announced the signing of Charles Boggini (South Glastonbury, Conn.) to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Stags beginning in the fall semester of 2008.

“I am excited to have Charles become a part of the Fairfield University golf program,” said Roberto.  “It is important to our program to be successful in recruiting talented Connecticut golfers and he certainly fits that bill.”

Boggini, a senior at East Catholic High School, is a talented player who earned All-State honors as a junior and is a two-time All-Conference selection.  He shot a round of 69 to finish as the runner-up at the 2006 Open Frank Kringle Junior Championship.  He was also the runner-up at the 2006 Junior World Qualifier.  The PGA of America also recognized Boggini in 2006 earning the Connecticut Section Sportsman of the Year award.

Over the past four years Boggini has played at a variety of levels and on several junior tours.  He is a member of the U.S. Golf Association and the Connecticut State Golf Association.  In addition he has played on the PJGT, the FCWT and has played in the Connecticut Junior Golf Association since 2000.  Boggini has also played in the U.S. Challenge Cup since 2004 and was a member of the AJGA.

Boggini is also very involved in the local community.  He volunteered for the Toys for Tots campaign in 2005 and the Connecticut Winter Olympics in March 2006.  As a junior in high school Boggini served as a Student-Athlete mentor at Silver Lane Elementary School.
