NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Freshman Jonathan Vannelli finished just two strokes shy of the winner as he tied for third place overall with a combined two round total score of 152 at this past weekend's Yale Invitational held annually at Yale's Golf Course in New Haven, CT. As a team, Fairfield placed 15th overall in the field of 22.
Vannelli opened with a round of 79 then fired a three-over-par round of 73 on Sunday. He was followed in scoring by Stags captain Michael Gearan who tied for 65th with rounds of 84 and 86.
Also placing for the Stags were juniors Jim Turnesa and Tom Leaver, and sophomore Rudy Pino who fired two-round totals of 176, 182, and 186 respectively.
The Stags return to action this weekend when they travel to Providence, RI to compete in the New England Division I Championships.
