CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore Jonathan Vannelli (Medford, N.J.) finished 13 over-par with a two-day score of 157 to lead the Stags to a 20th-place finish at the Third Annual Lafayette Golf Invitational held at the 6,772-yard, par-72, Center Valley Golf Club this weekend.
Trailing Vannelli by one shot, senior Jim Turnesa (Elmsford, N.Y.) shot 79 on both days to finish +14 and tie for 54th-place overall. Sophomore Matt Ferrigno (Lincroft, N.J.) and junior Greg Elting (New Canaan, Conn.) shot an identical 164 to tie for 90th overall while sophomore Nathan Edwards (Cotuitt, Mass.) rounded out the Stags, shooting 176.
Binghamton University pulled away from the field on the second day of play, finishing with a two-day team total of 586 to win the event. The second place team of Siena finished 29-over with a team score of 605 while Fordham (610), Connecticut (611) and Robert Morris (611) rounded out the top five teams. Fairfield put together rounds of 324 and 319 to shoot a +67, 643.
The Stags are back in action from April 16 to April 18, as they travel to Providence, R.I., to take part in the New England Division I Championships at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course.
