The Fairfield University men's golf team shot a combined 316 at the New England Division I Men's Championship, good for 11th place. The event, played at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence, RI, was shortened to one-round due to heavy rain.
Dan Quatrocelli, playing in his final New England Championship, snoe for the Stags. He shot a +2, 74, to finish in a three-way tie for eighth, just three strokes off of the leaders.
R.J. Zielinski was the Stags next finisher, tied for 38th, with a +6, 78. William Onstott finished in a five-way tie for 57th with a +9, 81. Rob Tarallo was next for the Stags, shooting 83, +11, for a 67th place tie. Greg Elting rounded out the Stags effort with a +18, 90, good for 82nd place.
Sacred Heart won the event with a +8 296 on the par-72, 6,522-yard course. The Stags defeated the University of Rhode Island by three strokes, the first time in at least a decade the Stags have defeated the Rams. Fairfield also koncked off the likes of Providence College, Boston University, and Dartmouth College.
