The Fairfield University men's golf team opened the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship in Orlando, Fla. The event is being played at the Magnolia Golf Course at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
Dan Quatrocelli led the Stags on the first day shooting 41-37 for a first round 78. The score is good for a ninth place tie after the first day of competition.
R.J. Zielinski shot 39-41, while teammate Rob Tarallo shot 41-39 for first round 80's. The duo is tied for 19th place.
Matt Ferringo shot 40-41 to finish the first round in a tie for 23rd place, at 81. Jonathan Vanelli shot 41-42, a first round 83, to finish the day in a tie for 29th place.
The event continues on Saturday and concludes Sunday.
