The Fairfield University men's golf team shot its best team round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, a 314, to finish in seventh place, with a three-round total of 965. The event was played at the Magnolia Golf Course in Orlando, Fla., a par-72 course, that played 6,852 yards.
Fairfield shot 319-332-314 as a team over the course of the three rounds. Siena College shot a 296 on the final day to hold off Loyola, winning the title witha 908.
Matt Ferrigno was the Stags top finisher, in 21st place at +24 for the three-rounds. He shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 78, which followed back-to-back rounds of 81, for a 240.
R.J. Zielinski was two strokes back with a +26 242 for the tournament and tied for 25th place. He had a consistent week for Fairfield, shooting 80-81-81. Rob Tarallo was one stroke back of his teammate with a three-round 243 (+27). Tarallo shot an impressive 75 on the final day after shooting 80-88 in the first two rounds of play.
Dan Quatrocelli paced the Stags on the first day with a round of 78 and then shot 82-84 the last two days to finish in a tie for 30th. He was +28 for the tournament with a three-day 244.
Senior Jonathan Vanelli, playing his final round for the Stags, shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday, with an 80. He was +35 for the tournament going 83-88-80 for 251.
Iona's Kyle Underwood was the only player in the tournament to finish under par as he won the title with a three-day -1, 215.
