ROME, N.Y.- The Fairfield University men's golf team tied for fifth-place in the American University Classic as the Eagles won their own tournament, finishing with a score of 597 at the Rome Country Club on Monday.

Long Island University placed second with a 604 while LaSalle and Mount St. Mary's tied for third with scores of 626. Fairfield, Colgate and Holy Cross tied for fifth with scores of 636.

Stag senior Jim Turnesa (Elmsford, N.Y.) set the pace for Fairfield, finishing with a score of 151 on rounds of 75 and 76. Sophomore John Vannelli trailed closely, shooting a 77 and 78 for a final score of 155.

The individual title was won by Sean Donnelly of Long Island University, who shot a 141 on rounds of 71 and 70.

Fairfield is back in action on Friday, Sept. 12, Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Central Connecticut State Invitational in New Britain, Conn.
