NEW BRITAIN, CONN. - The Fairfield University men's golf team finished in 10th-place in the 2003 Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Invitational at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conn., on Sunday.

The University of Rhode shot a second day 286 to overcome a three-stroke deficit and claim the team title with a two-day total of 585, besting CCSU by four strokes. Third-place went to the University of Hartford and Hawk golfer David Markle claimed the individual title with a two-day total of 141 (-2).

Fairfield sophomore Jonathan Vannelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) recovered from an 80 stroke performance on Saturday with a closing round of 73 to finish on-top for the Stags and 25th overall with a two-day total of 153 (+10).

Senior Jim Turnesa (Elmsford, N.Y.) placed 36th overall with a 156 (+13), freshman Dan Quatrocelli shot a 158 (+15) for 39th-place, freshman Matt Ferigno placed 43rd with a 159 (+16) and freshman Ryan Furman took 53rd-place with a two-day total of 166 (+23).

The Stags are back in action Sept. 27-29 as they participate in the George Washington Invitational at Rehoboth Beach, Del.
