The Fairfield University men's golf team opened the 2005-06 season, at the CCSU Invitational, at Stanley Golf Course. The Stags were led by senior Jonathan Vannelli, who finished tied for 9th, with a combined 149.
In the first round, Vannelli fired an even-par 72, but in the second round he carded a five-over 77.
R.J. Zielinski shot a 157 (75-82) over 36 holes to finish second on the team. Rob Tarallo was third on the team with a 160 (81-79), and William Onstott was the fourth Fairfield men's player with a 164 (82-82). Matt Ferrigno shot 165 (84-81) over two rounds for Fairfield.
Central Connecticut finished first with a team score of 591, followed by Army (595), Boston College (596), Brown (599), and Laval University (Quebec) (603).
Fairfield returns to action on Friday afternoon, at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
