REHOBOTH, Del. - Junior Jonathan Vannelli (Medford, N.J.) fired a 153 (+9) to lead the Fairfield University men's golf team in their 10th place finish at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational Monday at the par-72, 6,664-yard Kings Creek Country Club on the Delaware shore. The Stags finished with a team total 639 (319-320) for the 36-hole event.
George Washington University, the hosts of the tournament, took the team title with a 596 (308-288) while the Colonial's Jack Tyler took medallist honors with an even-par 144. Drexel University took second place with a 602, besting GW's B team, who took third, by 16 strokes.
Junior Matt Ferrigno (Lincroft, N.J.) tied for 19th overall, shooting 78 in both rounds for a 156 (+12) total. Freshman Adam Pecora, who led the Stags in the first round with a 76 (+4), tied for 24th place overall with a 157 (+13). Sophomore Ryan Furman (Garden City, N.Y.) recovered from an opening round 94 (+22) with an 85 (+13) on the second day to take 55th overall while freshman Alex Jeffers (Concord, Mass.) took 56th with a 185 (+41).
The Stags are back in action next weekend as they travel to West Point, N.Y., to participate in Army's Mulekicker Fall Classic on Fri., Oct. 1 through Sun., Oct. 3.
