Westover, MD: The Fairfield University Men's golf team traveled to the mid-atlantic region this weekend to compete in the Columbia Invitational held in Westover, MD and the Reheboth Beach Invitational at Kings Creek Country Club hosted by George Washington University. The Stags placed eighth in each event, posting a team score of 648 at Columbia, and 647 at Reheboth Beach.

Rookie Jon Vanelli took the Stags low score for the weekend with a two-day total of 149 at the Columbia Invitational. He finished round one just three strokes over par (75), then shaved off a shot on the second day to shoot 74. He placed fourth overall in the tournament.

Chris Novak was the Stags next best scorer with an opening round of 79 followed by and second round 81 for a combined score of 160. He placed 28th overall. Fairfield Captain Mike Gearan shot 87 and 79 (166 total) and placed 39th, while Tom Leaver shot 93 and 80 (173 total), and Jeremy Sawyer shot 94 and 81 (175).

Novak was the Stags leader at Reheboth with a combined score of 157, opening with 79 and closing with 78. He tied for 24th overall, while Leaver tied for 35th with a combined score of 161 (82 & 79). Vanelli fired shot a two-day total 161 (83 & 80), while Gearan shot 166 (85 & 81) and Sawyer shot 177 (91 & 86).

The Stags are back in action this weekend when they travel to compete in the Army Invitational at West Point, NY.
