West Point, NY - The Fairfield University Men's Golf team placed fourteenth in this past weekend's Army Invitational at the West Point Golf Course, in West Point, NY. Rookie Jonathan Vannelli paced the Stags with a two-round total scored of 159.
Vanelli, who placed in a tie for 40th overall, opened with an 82 on Saturday then followed with a 77 on Sunday. Sophomore Rudy Pino tied for 51st with a two-day score of 161 (82 and 79). Freshmen Nathan Edwards and Geoffrey Astle each tied for 68th place with combined scores of 166 each. Edwards opened with an 88 and closed with a 78, while Astle opened with an 80 and closed with an 86.
Senior Captain Michael Gearan rounded out the Stags scoring with a two day total of 169. He opened Saturday with an 82 and closed on Sunday with an 87 placing him 72nd overall.
The Stags are off until October 22 when they travel to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association's (NEIGA) Championship tournament in Cape Cod, MA.
