The Fairfield University men's golf team shot a two-day 620 to finish seventh of 14 teams at the Mulekicker Fall Classic, hosted by Army. The Stags were fifth after the first day, having shot 308, but shot a 312 on Sunday, slipping to seventh.
R.J. Zielinski was sensational on day one, putting himself into contention with a round of 73. He finished tied for 28th, with a 155, after a second round 155.
Dan Quatrocelli played well on the second day, with a round of 76. Combined with his first round 80, and he finished tied for 33rd, a stroke back of 28th, with a 156. Rob Tarallo also posted a two-day 156, and like Quatrocelli, played stronger on Sunday. he shot an 81 in the first round and a 75 in round two.
Kevin Fitzpatrick played evenly across his two rounds, finishing with a 157, good for a 38th place tie. He shot 78 on day one and 79 on day two. Greg Elting rounded out the Stags effort with a two-day 160. He played his best round on Saturday, with a 77, and followed with a second round 83
Fairfield bested LaSalle by a stroke (621), as well as defeating Monmouth, Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette. Rutgers shot 304-288 for a two-day 592 to capture the crown.
Charles Waddell of Bucknell shot a two-day 141, and won a three-hole playoff, to capture the individual crown.
