Brewster, MA - Amidst a field of 46 teams, the Fairfield University men's golf squad closed out the 2002 fall schedule in a tie for 21st place at the 68th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship tournament at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA.

Freshman Jonathan Vannelli led the Stags with a two round total score of 160, placing him in a tie for 51st overall. He shot out of the gate with a solid 75 on the first day, but dropped 10 stokes to an 85 on day two. Tom Leaver was Fairfield's next best finisher with a 162. Unlike Vannelli, Leaver dropped two strokes from his first day round of 82 to finish with an 80 on day two. He placed in a tie for 66th place.

Sophomore Rudy Pino shot one stroke less than Leaver and placed in a tie for 73rd. He opened with an 85 then rallied on day two for a 78. Also scoring for Fairfield was senior Chris Novak who shot a two-day total score of 169. Rounding out the Stags results was Jim Turnesa who opened with a 92 and closed with an 85.

The Stags will be off for the winter and will return to action next spring.
