Norman, Okla. - Fairfield University junior Jonathan Vannelli (Medford, N.J.) was recently named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, the first Stag in history of the program to receive the honor.

Vannelli, a finance major, holds a 3.80 GPA and is the top golfer on the men's team, leading the Stags in all but one invitational this past year. Vannelli won two tournaments during the 2004-05 season, taking medallist honors in both the Army's Fall Mulekicker Classic as well as the Cape May Invitational this spring. Vannelli also placed sixth overall out of 230 golfers in the NEIGA Championships to earn All-New England honors. This spring, he was named the Fairfield University Alumni Association Student-Athlete of the Year as well as to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
