
Bailey, Uy, Skara Named To All-Region Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Three Fairfield University men's soccer players earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region team. Seniors Sam Bailey and Tom Skara as well as freshman Matthew Uy received recognition for their efforts during the 2007 campaign.
Bailey picked up first team honors after leading the Stags with 26 total points, netting 11 goals and four assists in 19 games. The midfielder became the school's all-time leading scorer with a goal against Canisius College last October. He also finished fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) scoring race both for total points (26) and for points per game (1.37), which helped him receive All-MAAC recognition.
Uy was one of only five freshmen to make the three-team All-Region team, collecting second team accolades. He became an integral part of the Stags lineup early in the season. The rookie started all 17 of his appearances this season. Uy tallied three assists which tied for second among his teammates. Uy also was selected to the All-MAAC team at the end of the regular season.
Skara continued to be the team's defensive anchor, helping the Stags become of one of the top defensive teams in the country. The defender, who was named the MAAC defensive player of the year in 2006, picked up All-MAAC honors for the second straight season in 2007. With his help, the Stags allowed 21 goals in 19 games. Offensively, Skara tallied one assist in his 17 appearances.
The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under the guidance of Head Coach Carl Rees, finished the 2007 season with an 11-6-2 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in MAAC play. The Stags earned a national ranking during the season, breaking into the top 25 after defeating nationally-ranked St. John's University.
