Second Half Surge Sinks Stags As Harvard Posts 5-0 Decision

Sep 29, 2007

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Four second-half goals broke open what was a close game at halftime as 11th-ranked Harvard University posted a 5-0 win over the men's soccer team. After holding a slim 1-0 lead at intermission, Harvard scored in the 49th, 62nd, 70th and 77th minutes to take control of the contest.

Goalkeeper Jon Paul Francini faced 26 Harvard shots and made eight saves in the game. The Crimson outshot the Stags by a 15-3 count in the first half, but only beat Francini one time when a misplayed ball resulted in an open shot for Michael Fucito. Fucito made the score 2-0 early in the second half when he converted a pass from Chey Im just four minutes into the half.

Alex Chi raised the home team's advantage to 3-0 when he controlled a rebound of a Francini save, and pushed the ball back on goal for his second goal of the season. Andre Akpan, the Crimson's leading goal scorer, got into the action when he tallied a pair of goals just six minutes apart to close out the scoring.

Fairfield returns to action on Friday, October 5 when it hosts Manhattan College for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game. Game time is slated ror 7 pm.
