FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield University freshman Matthew Uy earned a berth to the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Under-20 Men's National Team, and will compete in the Copa Chivas Tournament in San Bernadino, Calif.
Uy has been involved with the United Soccer Federation for several years, competing with the Under-15 and Under-17 programs. He played matches for both teams over the years, and looks to continue his success with the Under-20 squad.
Uy was an impact player for the Fairfield University men's soccer team as a freshman, starting 17 of his 19 appearances during the 2007 campaign. He was among the team's leaders with three assists. Throughout the year, Uy became an important part of the Stags defense which yielded only 21 goals in 19 games.
The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under head coach Carl Rees, finished the 2007 season with an 11-6-2 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Stags reached the semi-finals of the 2007 MAAC tournament, which was played in Orlando, Fla.
