FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team finished off the pre-season with a 4-0 win over the University of Bridgeport at Lessing Field on Sunday afternoon. The Stags begin the regular season schedule next Friday when they play at the University of West Virginia.

The Stags received solid play once again by the defense, which kept the Purple Knights off the board with a strong 90-minute effort. Fairfield opened the scoring when freshman Christian Uy played a short pass from senior Alex Cunliffe into a goal early in the game. It was Cunliffe's play that set up the second goal as well, hitting a cross into the box that Sam Bailey placed into the lower corner of the Bridgeport goal.

Fairfield netted its final two goals in the final nine minutes of the game, just two minutes apart. James Marino started the scoring chance in the 81st when he left the ball on the foot of Mike Troy. The senior hit the ball from 25 yards out, which found the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. The final goal came just two minutes later when Mike Lentine found Robbie Gallina with a pass back, that Gallina struck from 30 yards out and beat the Bridgeport goalkeeper to the left side of the goal.
