FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Alex Cunliffe earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring two goals in a 3-1 win over Adelphi University last Saturday.

Cunliffe gave Fairfield a fast start to the game against the Panthers, scoring the game's first goal just five minutes into the contest. He tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal just four minutes later with a header, which pushed the Fairfield lead to 2-0.

The effort marked the second time in his career that he tallied two goals in a game. The last time came during the 2005 MAAC tournament semi-finals, a 3-0 win over Niagara University. His three goals translates into a team-high six points, and equals his season-high total for goals set during his sophomore season.

The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under head coach Carl Rees, owns a 3-2 overall record following the Adelphi victory. The team does not play again until its home opener on September 20 against the University of Hartford. The Stags played the first five games of the season on the road, including a tournament hosted by nationally-ranked West Virginia.
