FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Defender Mike Troy (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored a goal in two of the three games last week to collect the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week award. The senior tallied a goal in two of three games last week, helping the 15th-ranked Stags post a pair of victories.
Troy started the week by scoring Fairfield's lone goal against Harvard, which gave the Stags a 1-0 lead in the second half. The Crimson came back to tie the game and win it in double overtime by a 2-1 score.
After the Stags knocked off Manhattan by a 1-0 score last Friday, Troy came back to tally another goal in Fairfield's 2-1 come-from-behind double overtime win against Saint Peter's College. He converted a pass from Tom Skara in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Troy is currently tied for third among his teammates with three goals, resulting in six total points. His three goals are the most by any defender on the squad.
The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under head coach Carl Rees, posted its 10th of the season against Saint Peter's. The Stags have won 10 or more games in six of Rees' 10 seasons at the helm. Fairfield carries a 15-game MAAC regular-season unbeaten streak into this weekend's action, hosting Loyola College on Friday and Rider on Sunday. The team will honor its senior class on Sunday, the last regular-season home game for 2006.
