Stags Open Play at UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - The men's tennis team opened action at the UConn Invitational on Friday with some strong doubles performances.

The duo of Chris Bane and Mark Kremheller advanced to the semifinals of Flight 2 doubles. In the semis, the Fairfield pair was edged by Marist's Oliver and Green, 8-6. Bane and Kremheller began the day with an 8-5 victory against Rhode Island's Costin and Dixon.

Also competing in Flight 2 was sophomore Ryan Berthod and junior Chip Palumbo. They defeated Marist's Land and Keen, 8-1, in their first match of the day, but fell to Stony Brook's Markovich and Baradach, 8-3.

In Flight One, seniors Balazs Szikla and Glen Gannon could not get past UConn's Goldstein and Schueler, falling 8-4. The tandem of rookies George Laffey and Rob Ferrante were edged by Marist's Marks and Luck, 9-7.

Fairfield begins singles play on Saturday afternoon at the UConn Invitational.
