Stags Continue Action at UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - The men's tennis team opened singles play at the UConn Invitational on Saturday with several strong performances.

Sophomore Ryan Berthod advanced to the semifinals of Flight 2 but fell to Peter Luck of Marist, 6-1, 6-4. Berthod opened the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Joey Michaels of UConn.

Freshman Thomas Wilbur earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Holy Cross' Brendan McEihenny in Flight Seven. Wilbur fell to Alex Markovich of Stony Brook, 6-3, 7-6, in the following round.

In Flight One, George Laffey lost to Marist's Loic Sessigesimi, 6-2, 6-0 while Rob Ferrante was edged by Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in Flight Two.

Senior Balazs Szikla fell to Andrew Marcus of UConn, 6-4, 6-2 in Flight Four while Chip Palumbo was edged by Bucknell's Mark Malloy, 6-0, 6-3 in Flight Five.

In Flight Six, Bucknell's Anton Kovic outlasted senior Glen Gannon, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4. In Flight Eight Bob Kelly fell to Jon Epstein of Stony Brook, 6-0 , 6-2.
