Men's Tennis Tops Queens College 6-1

STAMFORD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team downed Queens College, 6-1, on Thursday night at Stamford Indoor. With the victory, the Stags improve to 5-3.

Fairfield opened the match by taking the doubles point. The duo of Chris Piasecki (Norwalk, Conn.) and Mark Kremheller (Greenwich, Conn.) set the tone early with an impressive 8-2 victory over Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassin at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) and junior Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) sealed the doubles point with an 8-3 win against David Alper and Taylor Crabill at No. 1 doubles.

Piasecki also had a strong showing at No. 6 singles as he notched the 6-1, 6-3 win against Nassin. Berthod kept things going at No. 1 singles with the 6-1, 6-0 win against Marcelo Kim. At No. 2 singles, freshman Rob Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win against David Burstein.

Senior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) defeated Crabill, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Palumbo downed Scheuing, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The only point for Queens came at No. 3 singles as Fabio Minami defeated senior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary), 6-3, 6-2. The QC tandem of Minami and Burstein edged Szikla and Gannon, 8-6.

Fairfield returns to action on March 25 when it hosts Rhode Island at 3 p.m. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
