Men's Tennis Edged By Rhode Island 4-3

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield men's tennis team was edged by Rhode Island, 4-3, in a tight match at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

Fairfield began the day by taking the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Ryan Berthod and Rob Ferrante defeated Jared Dorfman and Jeff Cote, 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, Glen Gannon and Balazs Szikla defeated Adam Gart and James McGuire, 8-5. Wrapping things up at No. 3 doubles were Mark Kremheller and Chris Piasecki who defeated Dixon Simmons and Nicholai Hill, 8-5.

Berthod notched his second win of the day with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over Dorfman at No. 1 singles. Piasecki also picked up a win at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 decision against AJ Nelson.

At No. 2 singles, Cote edged Ferrante, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2. Henrik Alstrom defeated Laffey, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Gannon was defeated by Gart, 6-2, 6-3. The Rams secured the win at No. 5 singles as Chip Palumbo fell to Andrew Costin, 6-3, 6-3.

The Stags (5-4) are back in action tomorrow, March 26,  when they head to UConn for a 3pm start.
