
Marist Tops Men's Tennis 5-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team fell to conference rival Marist College, 5-1, this afternoon at the Dutchess Raquet Club. With the loss, the Stags fall to 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and to 6-7 overall while the Red Foxes improve to 1-0 in the league and 5-4 on the season.
Junior Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) notched the Stags' point at No. 6 singles as he defeated Landon Greene, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 1 singles, Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) fell to Christian Coley, 6-4, 6-0. Freshman Rob Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was edged by Loic Sessagemisi, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles while rookie George Laffey (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was topped by Marcus von Nordheim, 6-3, 7-6(5), at No. 3 singles.
Senior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) had his three-match winning streak snapped by Nicholas Pisecky, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, senior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) fell to Greg Marks, 6-2, 6-1.
Only one doubles matched was able to be played due to time constraints. The match went in the favor of Marist as Coley and Pisecky defeated Berthod and Ferrante, 8-7(6).
Fairfield returns to action tomorrow, April 2, when it hosts Saint Peter's at 3 p.m. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
