
Stags Edged By Colgate 4-3

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Stags were edged 4-3 by Colgate on April 6 in a battle on the road.
The Stags began the day by taking the doubles points with wins in two out of three matches. At No. 2 doubles, Glen Gannon and George Laffey defeated Michael Yassky and John Nogueras, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Chip Palumbo and Balazs Szikla edged Phil Bernasek and Ruslan Goussiantnikov, 8-5. The Stags almost completed the sweep at No. 1 doubles, but Ryan Berthod and Rob Ferrante were edged, 8-7(4) by Martin MacIntyre and Tyler Deck.
In singles play, Laffey notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Deck at the third spot while Palumbo posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Jamie Pellechi at No. 6 singles.
At the top spot, MacIntyre defeated Berthod, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Nogueras edged Ferrante, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Szikla also fell in three sets at No. 4 singles with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 loss to Bernaseck. At No. 5 singles, Gannon fell to Yassky, 6-3, 6-3.
The men's tennis team returns to action on April 8 when it travels to Quinnipiac at 3pm.
