
Men's Tennis Falls To Stony Brook 6-1

STAMFORD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team battled it out with Stony Brook but dropped a late-night match to the undefeated Seawolves, 6-1, Saturday at Stamford Indoor. Senior Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) notched the Stags' lone point with a victory at fourth singles.
Berthod took Epstein to a super tie-breaker in the back and forth match. Berthod started things off with a 6-4 victory in the first set, but Epstein captured the second 7-6(3). Berthod did not back down, posting the 11-9 victory in the tie-breaker for the win.
At first singles, sophomore Joe Michalisin (Melville, N.Y.) was edged by Ivan Rummer, 6-3, 6-4. At second singles sophomore Dan Sauter (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) went to three sets with Halver Dil, but was nipped, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
At third singles, junior Rob Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) fell to Roope Kailaheimo, 6-1, 6-0. At fifth singles, rookie Erik Kremheller (Riverside, Conn.) was topped by Tiwari, 6-1, 6-4. At sixth singles, sophomore Mike Lessing (Islip, N.Y.) was edged by Ilan Shvartz, 6-4, 6-1.
Stony Brook took the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Ferrante and Michalisin outlasted Dil and Wong at first doubles with a 9-7 win. At second doubles, Berthod and Sauter almost overtook Rummel and Kailaheimo but the Seawolves pulled out the 9-7 win. Stony Brook wrapped up the doubles point at the third spot as Sztabholz and Tiwari topped Lessing and Mark Kremheller (Riverside, Conn.), 8-3.
The Stags (0-2) return to action on February 20 when they travel to Delaware.
