Results

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Fairfield men's tennis returned to their winning ways this afternoon downing Michigan Tech, 7-0. With the victory, the Stags improve to 4-2 on the year while Michigan Tech falls to 4-7.

Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola), who recorded his 100th career victory yesterday, brought his career win total to 102 with a singles and a doubles victory this afternoon. At No. 3 singles, Morrison downed Brandon Ellefson, 6-1, 6-3. He also teamed up with junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) to defeat Rick Halverson and Andy Sims, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Brett Girard. Freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) notched a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Halverson at No. 2 singles while sophomore Chris Bane (Manchester, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win against Sims at No. 6 singles.

Sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) and junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary/Austrian) recorded matching 6-0, 6-1 victories on the day. Palumbo downed Alan Parenteau by that margin at No. 4 singles while Szikla recorded the win against Chris Calder at No. 5 singles.

In doubles action, Fernando and Palumbo overtook Girard and Calder, 8-3 at the number one spot while Berthod and Szikla defeated Ellefson and Parenteau, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

Fairfield will face Bentley College this evening at 7:30 p.m. and will wrap-up play in Florida tomorrow, March 13 with a match up against Youngstown State.
