Results

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Fairfield men's tennis recorded its second straight shut out on March 12 as they downed Bentley College 7-0. With the victory, the Stags improve to 5-2 on the year while the Falcons fall to 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) recorded the 7-6, victory before his opponent retired in the second set due to injury. At the second spot, freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) notched a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Greg Maloomian.

Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) picked up the victory at No. 3 singles downing Miles Holman, 6-0, 6-4, while sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) earned the 6-1, 6-3 victory against Mike Dolan at the fourth spot. At No. 5 singles, junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary/Austrian) posted a 6-3, 6-1 win against Mike McCrillis.

Junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) carved out an exciting victory at No. 6 singles against Patrick Schorno. Gannon dropped the first set 3-6, but battled back to take the last two by scores of 6-4 and 10-8.

In doubles action, Avola and Maloomian picked up the lone win for the Falcons on the day by edging Fernando and Palumbo, 9-8, in the top-flight. At No. 2 doubles, Gannon and Morrison defeated Dolan and McCrillis, 8-6. Sophomore Chris Bane (Manchester, Mass.) and Szikla wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-4 victory against Holman and Schorno.

Fairfield wraps up play in Florida this afternoon, March 13, with a match up against Youngstown State.
