Results

ORLANDO, Fla. - In the final match of their spring break trip, the Fairfield men's tennis suffered a tough 7-0 loss to Youngstown State this afternoon. With the loss, the Stags fall to 5-3 on the year while the Penguins improve to 4-5.

At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) picked up a first set victory against Scott Kathary, but could not hang on, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) was defeated by Tom Barth, 6-4, 6-2.

Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) and sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) battled hard at No. 3 and No. 4 singles splitting the first two sets with their respective opponents but each would be defeated in the super tie-breaker. Morrison fell to Diego Cerzosimo, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 at the third spot while Palumbo fell to Brian Meek, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.

At No. 5 singles, junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) lost to Ryan Trapp, 6-2, 6-4 while junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) fell to Jason Trapp, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Youngstown State swept all three matches. Kathary and Barth defeated Fernando and Cerzosimo, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles while Morrison and Gannon fell to the Trapp brothers, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. At the third spot, Berthod and sophomore Chris Bane (Manchester, Mass.) fell to Cerzosimo and Meek, 8-4.

Fairfield is back in action on March 21 when the Stags host Boston University at 3p.m. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
