FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield men's tennis team opened play on their home court on a down note falling to visiting Boston University, 5-2, this afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. With the loss the Stags drop to 5-4 while the Terriers improve to 7-8 on the season.

Freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) and junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) earned the two singles victories on the day for the Stags. Berthod made quick work of Charles Weinstein downing him 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while at No. 6 singles, Gannon defeated Daniel Frid, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) battled back from a first set loss to Ross Lohr and ended up forcing a third set but he could not hang on falling, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) fought hard against Giulio Gallarotti but fell, 6-0, 7-6(4) at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) fell to Barrett Wolf, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) was edged by Jeff Chudacoff, 6-3, 6-2.

The Terriers started the day by taking the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Gannon and Szikla picked up Fairfield's win at No. 2 doubles defeated Chudacoff and Phil DeMeo, 8-4. At the top spot, Fernando and Berthod started off strong but were topped, 8-6, by Wolf and Gallarotti. At No. 3 doubles, Morrison and Palumbo fell to Lohr and Weinstein, 8-4.

Fairfield is back in action on March 24 when the Stags travel to Hofstra University.
