The men's tennis team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on March 25 with a 5-2 victory over Saint Peter's.
At No. 1 singles, Jonathan Fernando defeated Cprime Realista, 7-6(6), 6-3. At No. 4 singles, Balazs Szikla defeated Peter Czajka, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5 singles Chip Palumbo downed Jake Barawanski, 6-4, 6-1 while Glen Gannon posted a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jon Pimentel.
Freshman Ryan Berthod fell to Conrad Nowogronski, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles while JJ Gramatica defeated Zachary Morrison, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
In doubles play, Fernando and Palumbo defeated Realista and Gramatica, 8-4, at the top spot. At No. 2, Gannon and Sikla downed Czajka and Baranowski, 8-3, while Berthod and Morrison blanked Andrew Maple and Nowogronski 8-0.
Fairfield returns to action on March 27 at Rhode Island.
