Results

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - With the wind whipping around the Walsh Athletic Center Courts, the Fairfield men's tennis team remained strong, defeating Fordham, 7-0, this afternoon in non-conference action. The Stags (8-5, 1-0 MAAC) won their third straight match as the Rams fall to 4-6 on the season.

Fairfield was able to capture all three doubles matches for the doubles point. Freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) and senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the Stags' first doubles win of the day at the third spot by defeating Pat Tool and Peter Zipf, 8-3. The doubles point was secured at No. 2, as junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) and junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) defeated Dallas Harting and Peter Slucky, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) and sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) came from behind to defeat Mike Rosado and Mike Misiti, 8-6.

Fernando earned the victory at No. 1 singles by defeating Rosado, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Morrison downed Misiti, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Berthod beat out Harting, 6-2, 6-4, to seal the match victory for the Stags. At No. 6 singles, Gannon pushed past Slucky, 6-2, 6-3.

The final two matches to finish were at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. At the fourth spot, Szikla battled back from a first set loss to edge Zipf, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. At No. 5 singles, Palumbo defeated Tool, 7-6(2), 6-0.

Fairfield will host a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches this weekend. Niagara visits on March 31 at noon while Siena heads to the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts on April 1 at noon on Senior Day.
