FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield men's tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped this afternoon falling to Niagara 6-1 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. With the loss, the Stags fall to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while the Purple Eagles improve to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the lone point for the Stags at No. 3 singles. Morrison defeated Justin McConkey, 6-4, 6-3, to win his 14th match of the season.
At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) fell to Walter Garcia, 6-3, 7-5. At No. 2 singles, freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) fell to Erick Garcia, 6-2, 6-4.
Junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) was topped by Roman Silin, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles while sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) was defeated at No. 5 singles by Alex Abji, 7-6(4), 7-5.
At No. 6 singles, junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) fell to Marc Dickinson, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
Niagara swept the doubles competition taking all three matches from the Stags.
Fairfield will host Siena on Senior Day, tomorrow, April 1, at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
