Results

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team moved one step closer to tying the school record for wins in a season this evening as the Stags downed, Rider 7-0. With the victory, Fairfield improves to 11-8 on the year and 3-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while the Broncs fall to 2-6, 0-6 in the MAAC.

The program record for wins in a season is 12 which the Stags have recorded in each of the last two seasons.

At No. 1 singles, senior Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) defeated Casey Jelinski, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, freshman Ryan Berthod (White Plains, N.Y.) won his 12th match of the year with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Will Haight.

Senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) tied a career high with his 18th singles victory of the season by downing Marc Ashed, 7-6(4), 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Junior Balazs Szikla (Budapest, Hungary) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win against Jim Leone at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Chip Palumbo (Winchester, Mass.) shut out Luke Sproviero, 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot. Junior Glen Gannon (Chatham, N.J.) rounded out the victories with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Tom Becker.

The Stags took all three doubles matches. At the top spot, Fernando and Palumbo won their 14th match as partners defeating Jedlinski and Leone, 9-7. At No. 2 doubles, Gannon and Szikla defeated Haight and Ashed, 8-5. At No. 3 doubles, Morrison and Berthod downed Robert Worloe and Mike Straub, 8-1.

Fairfield closes outs conference play tomorrow, April 14 at Loyola.
