HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Fairfield men's tennis team continued action at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Jonathan Fernando advanced to the semifinals of Flight A, but fell to Bucknell's Ira Reibeisen, 6-3, 6-0. Fernando opened the day by defeating Gabriel Lopez of Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Also in action in Flight A was Ryan Berthod, who fell to Rhode Island's Henrik Alstron, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
In Flight C, Chris Bane fell to UConn's Nate Carvalho in the quarterfinals by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Junior Balazs Szikla also fell in the quarterfinals, dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Quinnipiac's Tom Curran.
In Flight D, Ben Geller could not get past UConn's Tom Cook falling, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation round of Flight B, Zachary Morrison defeated Sacred Heart's Brian Rodgers, 8-6, while Chip Palumbo fell to Fairleigh Dickinson's Alexander Nace, 8-4. Morrison will face Nace on Sunday.
In Flight D consolation, Tim Mahoney defeated Holy Cross' Brendan McElhenny, 8-3 but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson's Miroslav Piven, 8-3.
In doubles action, the duo of Fernando and Palumbo advanced to the semifinals of Flight A. The pair opened the day with an 8-5 decision against UConn's Schueler and Goldstein. They followed the effort with an 8-3 victory against Bucknell's Sandburg and Brenner.
In Flight B doubles, Mahoney and Bob Kelly fell to Bucknell's Zach Hascoe and Dan Bednarek, 8-2, in the quarterfinals. Mahoney and Kelly opened the day with an 8-3 win against Quinnipiac's Nuara and Corvari.
