PHILADELPHIA - Senior Jonathan Fernando and sophomore Chip Palumbo competed at the 2006 ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday, October 20, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Fernando fought hard against Temple's Matt Strubel, but was edged by Strubel, 7-6(5), 7-5, in the opening round of play.

Fernando then teamed up with Palumbo in the opening round of doubles. The pair played well but fell to Manhattan's Bogden Borta and Peter Czink by a score of 8-3.

In addition to Fairfield and host Penn, this event features the top players from Division I schools from: Columbia, Penn State, Brown, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Manhattan, Harvard, Dartmouth, St. John's, Boston College, Saint Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, Stony Brook, Rutgers, Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Buffalo, Colgate, University of Connecticut, Delaware, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Marist, Navy, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island, Saint Peter's, Temple, UMBC, Virginia Tech, and George Washington. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

Fairfield has concluded the fall season and will resume play on January 27, 2007 when it travels to Hartford.
