FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield senior Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tennis Player of the Week this afternoon by the conference. Morrison went 3-0 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles action to help Fairfield to a 2-1 mark last week and tie school record with 12 match victories.
Morrison, who has won his last four matches at No. 3 singles, set a career-best against Loyola winning his 19th singles match of the season with a 5-7, 9-7, 6-1 victory over Marc McDaniel. Morrison also defeated Rider's Marc Ashed 7-6(4), 6-3 and Manhattan's Peter Czink.
The co-captain leads the team with a 19-9 mark and is 16-9 in doubles play. As his stellar career winds down, Morrison will leave as one of the top career victories leaders. Morrison has a combined 119 career wins while classmate Jonathan Fernando (Verona, N.J.) has a combined 118 career victories.
Fairfield (12-8, 4-3 MAAC) garnered the No. 4 seed in the upcoming 2007 MAAC Championships and will face No. 5 Siena in the first round on April 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
