FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University Department of Athletics announces that Ed Paige will become the head coach for the men's and women's tennis program. Paige, who spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach for the Stags, has been involved in tennis as a player, coach and writer for nearly 30 years.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Paige has coached extensively at the youth level. He spent two years as the Director of Junior Tennis in the town of Fairfield, and was also an assistant coach for the boy's junior varsity tennis team at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, Conn.

Paige spent six years as an editor at World Tennis Magazine and was the editor of Tennis USA, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) official monthly newspaper. From there Paige worked at some of the top publishing companies in the country, including Paragon House, while teaching feature writing and copy editing at New York University. More recently, Paige spent two years as an editor at The Advocate, Stamford's daily newspaper followed by three years as managing editor of Westport Magazine before turning his attention to tennis full time.

Paige earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974 and attended the Breadloaf School of English at Middlebury College in 1976 and 1977.

The Stags open their 2006-07 campaign this weekend hosting the Fairfield Doubles Festival. The women's team will play on Saturday while the men's team will play on Sunday. Both events begin at 9 a.m.
