FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University head tennis coach Ed Paige announced that Robert Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the Stags during the 2007-08 season. Ferrante is the first student-athlete that Paige has signed since taking the helm of the Stags.

"It is with great pride that Fairfield University welcomes Rob Ferrante to its men's tennis program," Paige said. "The fact that such a great player has chosen Fairfield speaks volumes about the team, and where it is headed in the future.

"Rob brings tremendous talent and determination to our courts. His attacking, all-court game fits perfectly with the style of play that Fairfield displays. His cool nature under pressure is another attribute that blends well into our team's mantra."

Ferrante, a current senior at Yorktown High School, has played at No. 1 singles his entire prep career. In 2004, he was named the Westchester High School Tennis Player of the Year and is a two-time New York State High School Championship finalist. Ferrante also played in the Boys' 16s USTA National Zonals and captured the Sportsmanship Award.

Fairfield, the 2006 ECAC North Open champions, has concluded its fall season and will resume play on January 27 with a match-up against the University of Hartford.
