Aug 22, 2007
- Fairfield University head women’s basketball coach
Joe Frager announced today that Joelle
Nawrocki (Unionville, Conn.) has agreed to play basketball
for the Stags, beginning in 2007. Nawrocki is the first
recruit for Frager at the helm of women’s program and joins
Mesha Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Ayriell Robinson (Spring,
Texas) and Niya Santiago (South Plainfield,
N.J.) as the Stags Class of 2011.
“We are extremely pleased with the signing of Joelle
Nawrocki,” said Frager. “She is a very athletic,
versatile player, who is extremely competitive and has a good work
ethic. Equally as important, she is a good student and
possesses a strong character.”
A 5-foot-11 guard, Nawrocki comes to Fairfield after a four-year
career at Farmington High School, scoring 1,153 points. While
an Indian, she helped lead her varsity squad to 73 wins, including
a 24-3 record during her junior season. As a senior, Nawrocki
averaged 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals
per game. She was a McDonald’s All-America Nominee and
a First Team All-State selection by both The Hartford Courant and
The New Haven Register.
Frager became the Stags second Division I head coach on April 18,
and just the fifth in the program’s history. He won 189
games during a nine-year career at Southern Connecticut State
University, which culminated with the 2007 Division II National
Championship.
