Women's Basketball Opens Home Campaign Sunday Versus Sacred Heart
Nov 16, 2007
Coach Joe Frager and his 1-0 women's basketball team will make their 2007-08 home debut on Sunday, Nov. 18, as they host Sacred Heart at the Arena at Harbor Yard at 4:30 p.m. The Pioneers are 0-2 heading into the Sunday afternoon meeting.
Fairfield and Sacred Heart will be meeting for the 12th time in women’s basketball, and for the first time since the 1980-81 season. The Stags hold a 7-4 advantage in the series and have won the last two meetings. The meeting will be the first for the two teams at the Division I level. The Stags won the first three meetings of the series, including two games in 1974-75 and the first meeting the following season. The Pioneers earned their first win later in the 1975-76 season. Fairfield won the meeting in 1976-77 and the Pioneers earned their second win the following season, the first of three straight wins. The Stags got back on the winning track with an 83-55 home win in 1979-80 and won the last meeting between the two teams 72-47 in the 1980-81 season.
A portion of the ticket proceeds from the games versus Sacred Heart will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Between games of the double-header, the men will play Sacred Heart at 7 p.m., Fairfield will remember longtime News 12 sports anchor Bill Gonillo, who passed away in September. Bill was a friend of Fairfield athletics, and will always be a friend of the Stags.
