Wrice Named Holiday Beach Classic MVP; Lowenthal Named To All-Tournament Team

Fairfield University women's basketball senior Sabra Wrice was named the most valuable player of the Cal-Poly Holiday Beach Classic as voted by the tournament coaches and attending media.  Baendu Lowenthal was also named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the Stags 2-0 weekend.

Wrice averaged 24.0 points per game in the Stags wins over the host Mustangs and North Dakota State.  She scored a season-high 28 points against the Bison, including 20 in the final 10 mintues of the second half as she helped the Stags expand a 44-42 lead with 26-11 run to end the contest.  Wrice added five assists and four rebounds in the win over the Bison.  In the two games, Wrice was 7-13 from behind the arc, with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Lowenthal averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the two games, shooting 10-18 from the field in the games.  Against Cal-Poly she recorded her first double-double of the season, with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Stags went 2-0 in the tournament and earned the Holiday Beach Classic title.  Wright State defeated North Dakota State on Sunday to finish at 1-1, the same record as the host Mustangs, while the Bison finished 0-2.  Lisa Bue (NDSU), Shey Peddy (Wright State) and Whitney Lewis (Wright State) rounded out the All-Tournament Team.

Fairfield is now 5-0 to start the young season and continues its four-game road swing on Wednesday, traveling to Villanova for a 7 p.m contest.
