Stags End Three-Game Homestand At Alumni Hall Saturday

Dec 21, 2007

The Fairfield University women’s basketball team (game notes) completes a three-game homestand this afternoon hosting Northeast Conference member Saint Francis (NY) at Alumni Hall at 1 p.m.  The Stags enter the contest at 7-3 overall, while the Terriers are 3-6, hosting Cornell at home on Thursday night.

The Stags enter the game on a high-note, having not played in 11 days, and with a win in their last contest.  Fairfield rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to defeat Boston College, of the ACC, 59-54, at the Arena at Harbor Yard.  Sabra Wrice, who was named the MAAC Player of the Week as a result, led the Stags with 24 points.  She also pulled down six rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded two steals.  Baendu Lowenthal scored 20 as well for the Stags, while equaling Megan Caskin for a team-high with seven rebounds.  The Stags defense was solid in the contest, allowing BC to hit just once from behind the arc (1-9) and forced 24 turnovers.  The Stags are now 10-11 against the current members of the ACC, and 5-2 against the Eagles, as well as being the only MAAC school to defeat an ACC foe this season.  Fairfield shot a season-best 77.8 percent from the free throw line against the Eagles, after entering the game shooting just 55 percent at the stripe.  The Stags scored 14 points at the line, in the five-point win.

Today’s game, like all Fairfield home men’s and women’s basketball games can be watched live via the B2 Networks.  Fans can purchase a single-game viewership, or a season pass, by logging on to www.fairfieldstags.com/multimedia.  The play-by-play is provided by the Stags radio voices; John Cummings and Maria Conlon.

After Christmas the Stags will play five straight games on the road, beginning Dec. 29-30 at the Fordham Holiday Tournament.  The Stags will take on Troy at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29 and will play either the host Rams or Mount St. Mary’s at 1 or 3 p.m. on Sunday.  Fairfield then returns to MAAC play, at Marist on Jan. 5 and in Western New York Jan. 10 and 12.
