Jan 8, 2008
The Fairfield University women's basketball team (game notes) heads to Western New York as it continues a season-long five-game road swing. The Stags will take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Canisius College on Thursday at noon. Fairfield is 10-4 on the year and 0-3 in league play, while Canisius is 6-8 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
Fairfield and Canisius are meeting for the 41st time since the first meeting on Dec. 29, 1988, a 65-51 Griffs win. The Stags hold a 22-18 all-time advantage in the series, but have lost seven of the last eight meetings. Fairfield won 76-66 at Canisius last December, snapping a six-game series losing streak.
Joe Frager is in his 10th season as a head coach and he has picked up 199 career wins. Sabra Wrice became the first Stag since 2004 (Schrene Isadora) and the 13th all-time to score over 1,300 career points, finishing the game at Marist, her 102 career outing, with 1,308 points. She also has knocked down 109 career three-pointers, sixth all-time in program history.
