Women's Basketball Hosts Canisius at 1 p.m. Sunday

Looking for somethign to do prior to the Patriots and Giants face-off for the Super Bowl title?  Head to Alumni Hall Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as the Fairfield University women's basketball team takes on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Canisius College.

The Stags, who have won five of their last six games, are 15-6 overall and 5-5 in league play.  The Griffs are 10-11 on the year and also 5-5 in the MAAC, having lost to Manhattan on Friday night.

Megan Caskin had a career-high 15 rebounds for the Stags on Friday as they defeated Niagara 50-44, despite falling behind 24-12 in the first half.  Sabra Wrice, Baendu Lowenthal and Meka Werts each scored 11 points in the game, while the Fairfield defense did not allow a Purple Eagle to score more than eight points.

For the third time this season the Stags had over 50 rebounds, with a season-high 54.  Fairfield had a 30-7 advantage on the offensive glass in the victory.

Canisius out scored Fairfield 14-3 in the closing minutes of the team's first meeting this season, for a 58-57 win.  The Griffs captured the win with a field goal and made free throw in the final seconds of the game for the win.

The game will be the final game of a three-game home stand for the Stags, as well as the final game this season at Alumni Hall.  Fairfield is 5-1 this season at Alumni Hall and a victory on Sunday would be the 200th in program history in the on-campus facility.

Fairfield plays one road game, Feb. 8 at Iona before returning home to the Arena at Harbor Yard on Feb. 10 to host Manhattan.
